In the studio 

"Black Bombshell," 1999, dismembered dress, monofilament, approx. 8 x 8 x 8 feet by E. V. Day (86F). One of a series of three sculptures entitled "Exploded Couture." E.V. Day "explodes" party dresses to memorialize an active state of transformation and a celebratory depiction of shedding the restraining borders of feminine convention. 
Another sculpture in the series is currently on exhibit in the Whitney Biennial 2000, at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, which runs through June 4. "Bombshell" offers an exploded replica of Marilyn Monroe's white dress, as if the energy of the implied figure has expanded so forcefully that the dress has literally blown off her in a fit of ecstasy.
